Rocky Gribble (Producer/Studio Musician)

Years of experience as a studio / concert / television / show performer have given Rocky a keen insight into what good music should be.  As producer and band leader of the nationally renowned Grapevine Opry since 1987, Rocky has had a profound influence on countless up-and-coming performers, often working with the performers to elevate their vocal performances
A good song should also read well as a poem.  Likewise, Rocky’s attitude is that a music track, while being 100% supportive of a vocalist, should be equally as interesting without the vocal.  His production approach is also characterized by the overriding desire to achieve an expressive yet natural sound from a vocalist’s performance without distracting contrivances.  Translation – work hard to achieve a quality vocal.
In addition to playing for countless artists and songwriters as a studio musician, here are a few of Rocky’s production credits for CD projects
  • Matt Jenkins (Nashville-based songwriter)
  • Granger Smith (went on to become a Nashville songwriter before returning to the DFW area with his band)
  • Candice Myers (former Miss Kansas whose CD garnered awards for several tracks)
  • Robby Sullivan (award-winning vocalist)
  • Cathy Lake (won a Billboard Magazine award for best country Gospel song from her first CD)
  • Rebecca Henricks (award-winning Texas-based country singer)
  • Abbey Cone (currently supporting CASA with an original song while working on her debut CD)
A proficient multi-instrumentalist, Rocky’s studio and stage experience spanning almost four decades greatly augment his many roles as session musician, background vocalist, musical arranger and producer. His abilities on the electric lead guitar, acoustic rhythm guitar, nylon string classical guitar, five string banjo and mandolin keep him busy contributing to the music of countless singers and songwriters, including playing on Miranda Lambert’s demo which helped get the country superstar her first recording contract. He is also called upon occasionally to contribute his musical skills to local, regional and national commercial jingles, ad campaigns and trade shows, both recorded and live. Most recently, his banjo playing is getting quite a bit of air time on an acoustic version of the Texas regional ad for Dairy Queen.  He has also recorded, produced and / or written for many Grapevine Opry performers, Miss Texas pageant participants and winners and independent artists. From time to time, Rocky also acts as judge and talent scout for various talent competitions and showcases.
Rocky’s musical talents have taken him across the United States and to such exotic locales as Switzerland, Japan, Venezuela and Puerto Rico, playing for a broad variety of musical artists including Englebert Humperdink, LeAnn Rimes, B.J. Thomas, Ronnie Milsap, Linda Davis, the Judds, Gary Morris, Carol Channing, Wanda Jackson and Hank Thompson.
Rocky is a member of the Grapevine Opry Association’s Entertainer Hall Of Fame and was named the West Texas Music Hall Of Fame’s 2010 Entertainer Of The Year.  He has served as a board member on the GCISD Partners In Excellence committee, an officer and board member of the Grapevine Rotary Club, been awarded the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce 2011 Don Ramey Community Spirit Award and 2013 Citizen of the Year and was nominated for Instrumentalist of the Year for the 2013 International Country Gospel Music Association Awards.
